Welcome to a new chapter of The Fat Girl Show
Fat Romance
I’ve never been much of a reader, but when I came across a TikTok describing a small, yet highly specific, moment which made me feel seen in Olivia Dade’s All the Feels, I couldn’t deny that I was intrigued.
After downloading the Libby App on my phone, I read the novel from TikTok and was so inspired I ended up reading the entire series.
And just like that, I was hooked…
Rebel Wilson Abandoned The Community
We at TheFatGirlShow are strong believers in bodily autonomy. I have no right to tell anyone what to do with their body. Your body, your choice.
So while Rebel Wilson can gain or lose as much weight as she wants, she has no right to shame the community that built, and supported her, in the process.
Brendan Fraser and The Whale
No one is denying that Brendan Fraser is a talented actor, in fact it is kind of depressing how many people are just now realizing this fact, especially that they're basing it on his performance in the offensively fatphobic film The Whale. Regardless of his talent, and his slight connection to the the material, The Whale is an atrocious portrayal of fat people which could've been rectified with the involvement of actual fat people both behind the camera, as well as in front.
Lizzo's Big Grrrls Wins Awards!
ICYMI: Lizzo's Watch Out For the Big Grrrls won both at the HCA TV Awards as well as the Emmys!
HCA TV Awards: Celebrating Fat Suits, Not Fat Talent
Hollywood Critics Association's 2nd annual TV Awards are taking place next weekend. Over the course of two nights, celebrities from the small screen - across streaming, cable, and broadcast - will unite in Hollywood for a beautiful event which will hand out awards in achievement. Unfortunately, this year, the HCA has decided to celebrate a couple of programs which prominently use fat-suits.
The 'Chub Rub' is Real & Lizzo's Big Grrrls Have Solutions!
Our very own Yael Tygiel got a chance to talk with some of the dancers from Lizzo's Watch Out For the Big Grrrls and asked them the question that has been keeping her up at night... How Do They Deal with Chub Rub?
Fatphobia in the Oscar Nominees
With the Oscars a day away, quite a few films are continuing to make headlines. On their way to the Academy Awards, the incredible cast of CODA keeps picking up statues, allowing them to remind the industry that representation matters, authenticity matters, inclusion matters. Other films nominated in the Best Picture category have been making headlines for less positive criticism, including Licorice Pizza’s blatantly offensive racism. As with every year, the Oscars drum up discussions about diversity in film, but no one seems to be talking about the fatphobia baked into our entertainment.
Maybe it’s time to start.
'Butter' - Movie Review
It's only February, but perhaps one of the most obtuse movies to come out in 2022 is Butter - based on the Erin Jade Lange novel of the same name - which tells the story of a fat high schooler who is bullied so severely "he plans an incredible social media stunt that will risk his life" inadvertently gaining him attention and popularity.
"As the day arrives can he really do it?"
The screenplay, written by Paul A. Kaufman who also directs the movie, is surprisingly not a dark comedy, nor a satire. It's a straight-forward attempt at a Young Adult feel-good coming-of-age story starring newcomer Alex Kersting alongside icons like Mira Sorvino and Mykelti Willliamson.
Another Day, Another Fat Suit
It feels like just yesterday when Sarah Paulson publicly admitted regret in adding padding to play Linda Tripp for Impeachment: American Crime Story. Yet Renee Zellweger, star and producer of NBC's The Thing About Pam, is also fat-suiting up for the title role of Pam.
'Pretty Big' Origin Story
Many of us in the Body Positivity community are familiar with the dance company, Pretty Big Movement, who made headlines when they appeared on America's Got Talent back in 2015.
2022: TV's Year of Fatties?
Every January, Americans are bombarded with advertisements for diets, workout plans, gyms, "health" and "wellness", so it's a pleasant surprise to notice that this year audiences are getting an unexpected number of shows with plus size actors in mainstream roles.
Even more astonishing, quite a few are premiering in the first couple months of the year! Check out a bunch we're excited about…
